Conditions were far from ideal in Newport, but the football served up was of a far higher order as Burrishoole and Lahardane shared the spoils.

When Vinnie Cawley fired in a goal for Lahardane midway through the first half they looked to be poised to spring a surprise, but Burrishoole were guickly back to their rhythm and points from Neil Chambers (2) and one from Ronan Loftus had them back in contention. A fortuitous goal from a Fergal Hoban free helped them leapfrog into the lead, but before they had time to draw their breath, Tom Cawley landed Lahardane's second goal soon after. This score left the homeside trailing by a point at the interval.

The second-half saw a transformed Burrishoole take the game by the scruff of the neck, and Colm McManamon drove over a point to level. Midfielder John Nixon then found the net with what looked like a match-turning goal, but Lahardane countered with two Tom Cawley points to level. It remained that way at the final whistle.

For Lahardane, Mervyn and Trevor Marley, Anthony McDermott, John Rowland and James Gillespie were best while for Burrishoole Noel and Colm Mcmanamon along with Neil Chambers all impressed.
