Mayo Senior League Division 2 (Sunday, 25th of March)

Parke...........................0-08
Lahardane....................0-11

Lahardane got their league campaign off to a winning start by defeating neighbours Parke in Parke on last Sunday, 25th of March. The visitors produced a fine second half performance to secure both points after trailing by a point at half time.
Lahardane dominated the early stages and scored early points from Declan Leonard and John Rowland, indeed Rowland proved a thorn in the side of Parke as he repeatedly ran at the opposition defence forcing panic on most occasions. Michael Costeloe pointed for Parke and ace freetaker Harry Flynn pointed again for the homeside. Flynn's freetaking was a feature of the first half, as he pointed placed balls on four occasions. Lahardane also had points from James Gillespie and a superb Anthony McDermott effort to leave his side trailing by only one point at the break.
Lahardane hit a purple patch just after the interval and had unanswered points from Gillespie, Shane Blake and Rowland after another defence splitting run. Flynn again pointed a free.
But Shane Blake raised the white flag at the other end and Gillespie and Flynn traded frees. Towards the end of the game Declan Leonard was beginning to take a hold on the game up front and he kicked two fine points to leave four points between the sides as the game neared completion.
Parke done their utmost to get back into the game but all they could muster was a another Flynn free.
For the winners, J.J.leonard and Damian Kelly were excellent in defence, McDermott and young Chris Barrett shaded midfield while up front John Rowland, James Gillespie, Declan Leonard and Shane Blake were good, sub Vinny Cawley also made a solid contribution when introduced.
Parke will be dissapointed to have got their season off to a losing start, however they will have a chance for revenge when these sides meet again in the first round of the intermediate championship in July. On this ocassion no fault could be layed at Michael Walsh and Anthony Dunne at the back, Martin McGloughlan and Padraig Lynch had their moments at midfield, while up front Harry Flynn Michael Costelloe and Kenny Hyland played well.
