Mayo Under 21 'B' Championship

Kilfian.................0-03
Lahardane..........1-13

Lahardane had an easy victory away to Kilfian in the opening round of the Under 21 championship last Wednesday (July 4th).

Once Dylan Nolan opened the scoring after three minutes Lahardane never looked in any trouble. Chris Barrett had a superb game all through at midfield and some of his catching of clean possession was magnificent. Also Ray McDermott was very much to the fore in the centre. Michael Lynn was in fine free taking form and he raised four white flags in the opening period. Kenny Burke, Patrick Rowland and Brian Rowland also had points in the opening half, while for Kilfian only midfielder Seamus Reape appeared to be able to compete at this level with Lahardane and he kicked two good scores for his side to leave the half-time score of Kilfian 0-02; Lahardane 0-08.

The second half was even more one sided than the first and Lahardane only went though the motions. Substitute Damien Leonard goaled from close range well into the second half. John McDonnell pointed for Kilfian, while Lahardane wrapped the game up with three fine points from nippy corner forward Dylan Nolan.

For Lahardane Sean Harte and Aiden McDonnell were superb in defence, Chris Barrett and Ray McDermott marshalled midfield and in attack Patrick Rowland, Dylan Nolan, Michael Lynn and Brian Rowland were best. Also huge credit must be paid to the Lahardane supporters who turn out in great force and outnumbered the home fans by about 20 to 1.

Kilfian were totally out of their depth and only point scorers Reape and McDonnell were prominent.

Lahardane: C. McAndrew, C. Coughlan, A. McDonnell, G. Naughton, M. Marley, S. Harte, C. Barrett, R. McDermott, P. Rowland, B. Rowland, K. Burke, D. Nolan, M. Lynn.
Subs.: D. Leonard, P. Jordan, S. Coleman.
