THE McPOLIN TROPHY

2004 WINNERS

The McPolin Trophy is an annual match between Castletroy Boys and Limerick Boys. The Trophy was donated by the late P.J.McPolin, past President of the Golfing Union of Ireland, and was first played for in 1974. The teams consist of ten players and the format is foursomes and singles matchplay, although this has varied over the years. Castletoy had a very firm grip on this cup until recent years, winning 16 of the first 20 meetings, and have a record eight in a row wins from 1975 to 1982. Limerick won six in a row up to 1999 with Castletroy winning in 2000. Castletroy won the most recent meeting, played at Limerick, by 6 - 4, in April 2005.
