During one of the rag weeks at college, a group of us got involved in Plassey Arts Week Radio, a pilot piped radio service at the University of Limerick, a forerunner to the current licensed student service, Wired FM.

I finally got on air in 1989 when Paul Collins (then at Tipperary Mid-West Radio in Tipperary town, now with Today FM) asked me if I was interested in a slot on the station. I did the show, and the "on-air" bug hit - I was hooked!

In 1990, I got involved in a community radio show on the then-licensed Radio Limerick One - we only went out once a week, but there was a lot of work in it behind the scenes - researching, making contacts, recording and interviewing, editing, presenting and finally producing/TO-ing the show.

During that period, I was also asked to do a music-driven show on Saturday and Sunday nights (6-12pm), and I later switched to anchor the afternoon shows from 2-6pm.

The page couldn't go live without my adding my thanks to Noel Naughton for his training, guidance and support during my time at RLO.
