As Kilanerin Coach......

  1. When did you first hear of Kilanerin GAA Club and how did you get involved in the Football team?

Owen Doyle (Avondale) asked me if I would be interested. I had never heard of the place until then.

  2. What were your initial goals for Kilanerin and did you ever think you would be so successful?

When I saw them play I knew I could improve the way they were playing. That was my main goal initially.

  3. Did you ever think the team would beat St. Martin's in the Intermediate final trilogy of 1992?

Yes. I thought the team was always good enough to win it.

  4. Do you plan your team talks or is something that comes to mind on the spot?

If there is anything on the tactical side that I want to say, I would have it well thought out. I would plan a team talk to cover specific areas but not exactly word for word. It would be based on the areas that I have planned to speak about.

  5. All great coaches have advisers, etc: in the background. Who has helped you in your role as coach?

All coaches are limited by the quality of the players with whom they work. I am no different. I learned initially from my own experiences and later on I read a great deal.

  6. What is your fondest memory during your time with Kilanerin?

The celebrations that followed winning the Intermediate Championship is one and winning against St. Joseph's (Louth) to reach the Leinster Club Semi Final is the other.

  7. What was your biggest disappointment as coach of the Kilanerin team?

Losing to Rathnew in the Leinster Club Championship last year.

  8. Is there ever a time when you dread travelling the distance to Train the lads?

No. I don't think about it usually. I would only be disappointed when the turnout is poor and I feel it was a waste of time.

  9. Are you still involved in the St. Patrick's Club (Wicklow)?

Yes. I trained the Under-16's to win the Championship in 1997. I like to try and contribute something & my son Bryan plays on that team.

  10. Who will win the All-Ireland?

If I were a betting man I'd go for Meath.

  11. How do you rate the standard of football in Wexford?

At Club level as good as anywhere. In fact it could be very high but for the fact that most of the senior teams are dual clubs.

  12. Have you ever been offered the Wexford County Managers job?

The last time it was available I was invited to apply but I declined.

  13. If you could have done anything differently over your time in charge what would it be?

I cannot honestly think of anything. I have always done what I thought was best at the time.

  14. Is the team any closer to winning the Leinster Club Championship?

Yes. Maturity is important. Experience is important. These will come in time. The team will win it.

  15. What are your plans for the future? How long do you think you'll stay at the helm in Kilanerin?

I take one year at a time.

  16. And finally, what are your ultimat goals for the Kilanerin Senior Team?

The Senior Championship & The Leinster Club Championship.
