Knitted Lacy Cleavage Cover Insert /
Chemisette
KNITTED PATTERN
by Linda Z. O'Halloran
October 2011
I enjoy wearing V-neck tops, but
preferred more coverage, so I came up
with this design.
The idea is to attach the lace
piece to your bra, so it can
be worn with any top, without adding unwanted layers.
This is knit flat with 2 needles.
Cleavage Cover panel made of crochet cotton thread, size #5
Cleavage Cover panel made of 4ply cotton yarn.
One fastening method - buttons at the top & tied with ribbon
(or a button)
in the center.
Little ribbon loops could be sewn to the bra cup, to be used to help
anchor the piece in 5 places.
However, if you don't like sewing, good old reliable safety pins work
well too!
The
lace
piece
is worked flat, in a lovely French lace pattern.
The pattern is presented as written instructions,
with very exact and clear details
for each row, to avoid confusion while decreasing
& shaping.
Instructions are given for adjusting the size for a
custom fit.
Materials:
Crochet Thread (I
used white size #5 cotton) or any lace-weight yarn.
Or 4-ply sock yarn (cotton is ideal) - as used for
the black piece above.
Row counter.
2.5mm knitting needles
Attachment
accessories:
Sewing thread /needle
Fastening
Supplies:
Buttons,
snaps, hooks & eyes or ribbon or velcro - to attach the piece
(temporarily) to a bra or bras
- something small that doesn't
ruin the look of the bra when it is worn on its own.
Also, safety pins are easy,
convenient & don't require sewing!
I sewed 2 small buttons onto the
bra where the strap joins the cup,
using the yarn-over spaces in the
piece as buttonholes.
To anchor the piece at the bottom center, I simply
tied it to the bra's decorative
bow with a piece of ribbon.
A hook or snap could work too.
Gauge:
1 pattern segment
(12 sts wide) is about 1.5" wide by 3/4" long when stretched.
The entire piece
(after stretching & blocking, to open up
the stitch pattern) = approx. 10.5--11" wide (at top) & 4.5--5"
long.
