Some census records indicate that she was born in Ohio.
[2288] John Zurbrick married Melissa Stevens 7 years after his brother Henrymarried her sister Mary. They obtained a marriage license #449 onJuly 9, 1872 in Richland co., Illinois, and were married on July 10,1872. (Melissa's father Uriah Stevens was living in Noble, Illinoisbefore his death in 1873. Probate papers showed that Uriah Stevenspurchased a Singer sewing machine for $85 about 2 weeks before thewedding of Melissa and John...most likely as a wedding present forthem.)

Death of Edwin Thomas
Was taken ill while on a visit to this city.
Edwin Thomas a Veteran whose illness was recorded in the Advertiserseveral
days ago died yesterday morning at the home of his son, Elsworth at151
Franklin St. this city, of uraemia aged 77 years. Mr. Thomas came hereon a
visit several weeks ago and being taken ill was unable to return. Hisfamily
were informed of his condition and several members have been in thecity
during the past week awaiting the end which the physicians hadinformed them
must soon come.
Edwin Thomas was born in Reading, NY and removed to Catharine,Schuyler
county 50 years ago. He was twice married his first wife being MissHarriett
VAN LOON of Catharine. This marriage occurred in 1841. His survivingchildren
by the first marriage are sons, George and Frank and daughters Mrs.
Wellington Woolever of Cayuta, Mrs George Osmun of Horseheads, andMrs.
Chauncey Meeks of Montour Falls, Ellsworth Thomas of Elmira. The firstMrs.
Thomas died in 1864.
Two years later Mr. Thomas married Mrs. Barbara Freece. The childrenof this
second marriage are Edwin of Odessa, William and Bert Dunn of Elmira,Mrs.
John Mosher and Addison, Henry and Charles of Cayuta.
The funeral of deceased will be held from his late home in Veteran onSunday
at 11 o'clock am. The remains will be taken there today. The intermentwill
be made in the Mix cemetery at Catherine. Mr. Thomas was a member ofthe
Christian church and was much respected in the community in which hehas
resided all his life. In addition to his children deceased is survivedby his
wife and one sister, Mrs. Clarissa Van Gelder of Binghamton.
