Edward leased land from Rev. Dr. Campbell in Shanco near Killeevan(over 13 acres) in 1858. He had come from Meath with sheep. He ownedand lived at a shop in Killeevan.
The Monaghan Story (by Livingstone), p. 607-8: "One of the principalliterary families in the country. The Monaghan Wards are said to be abranch of the Galway Wards, who came here via Tir Chonaill, and whodescended from Sodhan Salbhuidhe. The earliest reference to themnotes the death of Nuadha Mac an Bhaird in 1488. In 1607 a Mac anBhaird (Ward) was granted four townlands in Aughnamullen (and also 3other Wards received grants then.) "
