[64] Confusion exists about whether this Daniel Meeks died or divorced hisfirst wife Sarah Broas and left for Michigan with second wife ElsieMiller and several children.--(Or whether there could have been twoDaniel Meeks/Mix of the same age living in Hector, NY.) Theinterchangeable use of "Meeks" and "Mix" adds to the confusion. SarahBroas was called a "widow" in one source, but most likely sheseparated from Daniel about 1821. (Ira Meeks was born in 1820 butDaniel and Elsie's first child was born in 1822.) The biography ofIra Meeks states that his father Daniel "went to Michigan" about1832/1833, and we know that Daniel Meeks and 2nd wife Elsie went toMichigan at that time, with their family. There was no apparentburial or death record found for a Daniel Meeks in the Tompkinsco./Schuyler co. area.
[2282] New info shows that Daniel Meeks and Sarah Broas could have been firstcousins, by a marriage of Daniel's father Edward Meeks to SarahNicholson, sister of Sarah Broas's mother Ann/Nancy Nicholson. (ButSarah Nicholson is probably not mother of Daniel, but a step-mother.)
[2283] Divorce was rare; they probably just parted company.
[2384] Elsie Miller was the daughter of Isaac Miller, a tailor, of Hector,NY.
