The source giving Jesse Broas as a son of Pieter Brass and Phebe Smithis a compilation of notes taken by D. W. Patterson, a noted 19thCentury genealogist. He lived at Newark Valley, NY. He made a practiceof going out into the countryside and interviewing local familiesconcerning their history and ancestry. His hand written notebooks wereleft to the Connecticut Historical Society at Hartford when he diedand they reside there today.
