They lived 2 doors away from Donald Ross & wife Rebecca (Reid), wholived next to
James "Read" & wife Mary or Marg. and family.
"A Pioneer of Wallace and Resident of that Township for over FiftyYears."
Lived on the family homestead all his life. Came to Wallace twp.,Perth co. in the early 1850s with his father John, when he was a ladof 18. (from obit.) Suffered a "stroke of paralysis" a year and ahalf before his death. He was the second son of John Reid. His eldestbrother was James, who was still living on one of the 100 acre farmsof the homestead; Thomas was the 2nd son; William John was theyoungest who died in the West a few years before 1906, also ofparalysis. "There are 3 sisters in the family, one of whom, Mrs. Wm.Ferguson, of the 3rd line Wallace, is deceased; the others are Mrs.Donald Ross and Mrs. Wm. Brady. Though of a quiet disposition andtaking little part in public or municipal life, the late Mr. [Thomas]Reid was a most kind-hearted and hospitable disposition, and was muchliked and esteemed by a wide circle of friends. He leaves a widow,whose faithful ministrations helped to alleviate his long months ofsuffering and one daughter, Mrs. J. McGinnis, of London [Ontario].The funeral on Tues. to Fairview cem., Listowel, was largelyattended." Listowel Banner of Dec. 6, 1906 .
[1390] A family bible notation indicates that he died on Sun., Dec. 6, 1906,but this was actually the date of his obituary, not his death.
