1850 Census (15 Oct 1850) shows a William A. Tanner, age 20, inReading, Steuben co., NY; he was a farmer in the household of Luther& Eliza Cleveland - living fairly close to where Jane Griffin wasliving in Tyrone, Steuben co., NY (with her parents on 1850 census,age 21). The Griffins left the area to move to Tioga co., PA betweenOct. 1850 and early 1852 (when they appeared on the 1852 tax rolls).
Same William Tanner (as above) was mentioned in "More Tales fromLittle Schuyler" (by B. Bell) as participating in a plowing bee on 30May 1862 to finish the Hillerman land for planting: "William Tannerused Cleveland's team".
