Q1.

TA Availability in Ireland

How I could get in touch with psychoanalyists who use TA methods in Dublin.

I am sorry to have to tell you that so far as I can find out, there are no TA practitioners in Dublin.

There is a trainee in Westmeath. E-mail Marian Moran to see if she has vacancies. She practices under supervision

If you are in Ireland, you are welcome to come to our meetings. We usually show part of a video on TA, and then talk about how it might apply to ourselves. What we do would be called personal development, but might be of some help.

Check the latest NewsNotes for details of meetings and phone-numbers.

There are some therapists practising in the UK listed on the ITA (Institute of Transactional Analysis) site.

Q2.

Foundations of TA

I need a web site to find an article about Foundations of AT.Thanks.

There is an Eric Berne Dateline on this site, and a history of TA on the ITAA (International Transactional Analysis Association) site.

Q3.

Photo of Eric Berne. Where can I find the photo of Eric Bern for my classroom?

You are welcome to use the two pictures from my site for non-commercial purposes.

Q.4.

More details about the theory of TA.

I am currently the Asst. Training Manager of Oberoi Hotels Mumbai and a student of Hotel Management.

After spending about 8 ½ years in food and beverage operations, I moved into training where initially I used to conducta lot of skill training , there after I moved on to conducting a lot of behavioural programs.

The objective was to corelate the two attach the behavioural concepts to hotel technical skills. Having done that I now do a lot of behavioural programs that now aim at self introspection.

I recently conducted a session on TA. It was very well received, however many in the audience wished if we had given them more details about the theory of TA. If you could let me know which sites in the internet will give me an indepth information on the theory of Transactional Analysis.

Q. 5

Effective FEEDBACK FORMS

I would also like to make out an effective feedback form for training programs which aim at self introspection to get as accurate as possible feedback that will help us to take these programs forward and make it even more effective and practical.

Q.6

APTITUDE TEST

I am also looking at procuring an aptitude test which we can use during the

recruitment of our Management Trainees. If you know of any sites on internet

which will help me please let me know.

Looking forward to your assistance.

Yours truly,

Anjali G

Dear Anjali

Thank you for your enquiry about TA theory.

Probably the best site for you to go to is the ITAA (International Transactional Analysis Association) site. From this site you can reach most of the TA sites in different parts of the world.

However, I think you will find that not much theory is discussed on them.

Some of the sites have a discussion list attached. It is a good idea to 'lurk' for a while on one of these lists to see if they discuss anything of interest to you.

However, it may be that most of the discussions will be about clinical matters - at least so I have found it myself.

It might be an idea to keep a record of the kind of questions that your students ask which you do not have answers for.

Perhaps you could involve them in a project to search the books to find the answers.

Another idea is to join the ITAA which costs under $100 per year. For this you will get the TA Journal which has the most up to date theory.

There is also a TAJnet online. You could search for that if it isn't linked to the ITAA site.

Hope this is of help.

Please write again if you need to.

I think I can understand your frustration when your students are so enthusiastic and you do not have materials to satisfy their curiosity.

By the way, many of Muriel James books have materials which can be very helpful as teaching tools.

Sincerely

Elizabeth Cleary

Folks! you can e-mail Anjali if you have further information.

Q.7

References for sites or materials which provide some detail on the role of the therapist......

Dear Elizabeth,

I found your site while researching for an essay about the role of the therapist in Transactional Analysis. I'm currently studying for a higher diploma in Counselling and am ineterested in learning more about TA.....but first I need to get this essay done.....do you have any references for sites or materials which provide some detail on the role of the therapist.......I'll look forward to hearing from you....

Great to hear from you especially that you are interested in TA.

Three books that come to mind are

Transactional Analysis in Psychotherapy by Eric Berne Pub by Balantine

Books 1961/1989 ISBN 0 345 33836 7

Transactional Counselling in Action by Ian Stewart pub Sage Pubs 1989

ISBN 0 8039 8190 2

Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy by Petruska Clarkson pub

Tavistock/Routledge 1992 ISBN 0 415 02454 4

I think Ian Stewart's will be the easiest to read, and may be what you need.

Hope this helps.

Q.8

Upcoming Seminars in Ireland I would also be interested in knowing of any upcoming seminars or workshops in Ireland........

There will be a workshop with Jean Illsley Clarke at the end of March (Actually April 1/2). JEAN ILLSLEY CLARKE in Ireland

The 1st/2nd April is ideally perched between St. Patricks Weekend and Easter which means that the tourist season will have started in Killarney by then but will not be very busy as it will not be a bank holiday week-end.

Again, thanks for writing

Regards

Elizabeth Cleary

Q.9

Claude Steiner's Emotional Literacy

Hello Elizabeth,

I just read, twice, Acheiving Emotional Literacy by Claude Steiner.

I was looking for his home page when I came across yours.

Have you had any meetings since 1997?

I thought that his approach was a good way of becomeing more mature and I would like to develop it.

Michael

ps back to looking for his home page. I found it once but it's hiding from me now

Dear Michael

Here is the URL for Claude Steiner's Page, where you can read more about

Emotional Literacy.

Like you I also find emlit very helpful.

Q. 10

Re TAI meetings

Yes indeed, we have been meeting on a monthly basis, though now we meet in each others homes to keep costs low.

You can consult the Current NewsNotes for the contact phone numbers.

Elizabeth Cleary

Q.11

Re Claude Steiner's book "HEALING ALCOHOLISM" Dear Elizabeth,

Thanks for your reply together with the URL.

I see from his home page that the book I want to read is out of print.

Healing Alcoholism.

Do you know of anyone that might have a copy.

I would have liked to have attended you January meeting but I have to go

to the UK to mother sit while my sister is on holidays. Please let me

know when the next meeting is and if it's OK to attend.

I live just outside Carlow town so I'll need to consider the travelling

conditions at the time.

Have a peaceful Christmas and a peaceful Millenium.

Love,

Michael

Dear Michael

If my memory serves me rightly, there is a woman called Marsha Lomond who did have permission to do some re-prints of Claude's books.

You could phone her at 0044-1279-413-716

Check with her first that she is the correct person - if she is not, she may know who is.

Also, give her my regards

Hope this works for you, and that we will see you in February.

That will be a social event, the week-end around the 14th. Details

later.

Regards

Elizabeth

Q.12

TA Booklist

Dear Dave, Sorry for the delay

Here is the TA Booklist as promised.

The authors who deal most with re-cycling are Pamela Levin and Jean

Illsley Clarke.

I have included a couple of ISBN references, but it would take too long

to chase them all up.

So if there is any other one that looks interesting to you, I can give

you the reference, if there is one.

Seasons greetings, and nice meeting you at the P&W party

Regards

Elizabeth Cleary
