TA101 in 2000 (For 2002 information, click here)

Where, When & Cost is the next TA 101 seminar to be presented? Perhaps a schedule for year 2000.

Have no details of TA101 in the US - would you like to hear about in the UK?

Unfortunately, there is nothing planned in Ireland either.

It [TA101] seems to be a mystery seminar! I know about the UK schedules and I'm disappointed that there is is none in Ireland. This would give me an excuse and another reason to visit!!!! Thank you for your prompt answer.

Q2.

Therapy in Ireland

(a) I have been asked by a friend of mine to find a therapist for a young lady who is moving to Dublin.

(b) I am a young woman of thirty who will be staying in Dublin from the 6th of April. I had your name from an ITAA therapist who suggested to contact you in order to get in touch with a TA therapist in Ireland.

I have already read in your FAQ that there is no pratictioner in Dublin at present and that out of Dublin there's a trainee, Marion Moran, in Westmeath. I haven't written to her because I don't know exactly how far Westmeath is from Dublin and maybe it would be very unpractical.

Apart the information found in your site I also had a name of someone who lives in Sheestown, Co Kilkenny. Do you happen to know whether she is a TA practitioner or not?

I would be very grateful if you could help me in any ways: it's important to me, before leaving my country, to have already some contacts in Ireland reagarding TA therapy.

Once in Dublin I would be very happy to meet and to greet you in person and I would also very pleased to get in contact with your TAI group because it really seems a great thing. I am looking forword to hearing from you at your convenience.

Good to hear from you.

Unfortunately there is no TA therapist currently practising in Ireland. Your friend would be very welcome to attend our monthly meetings to discuss TA.

I myself travel to the UK for therapy but this is expensive.

I keep hoping that enough individuals might show an interest in therapy so that we might be able to pay someone to come to Ireland, even once a month.

However, there is no one so far.

There are many other types of therapy available in Ireland. If you wish I will send you details of IACT which has a directory of accredited people.

There are other people who are very good, but who are not listed in this book.

Your friend may telephone me when she comes to Dublin.

Westmeath would be a little over an hours drive from Dublin, depending on which part of Dublin you would be staying in.

Unfortunately the other person has returned to her home in Canada. However, her training was in organizational work, so wouldn't have been of use to you.

Q.3.

HTML Tips

My mother was speaking to me about your chat last night and she said you might have some useful information on setting up a website.

I would be very grateful for any information you can send me.

Here is a good site to start with.

I don't know how much you already know about HTML, but if you are a complete beginner, try the site tour at the top right-hand corner of the Webmonkey homepage

Web Monkey

Let me know if you need anything more specific.

All you need to know is probably on the web, so don't go spending good money on books

Q.4.

TA/Gestalt Presentation

I found your site to be very informative.

I am searching for info for a class group project. Our topics are:

TA & Gestalt & Berne Perls

Transactions

Life positioning (psychological)

Intimacy & Self Closure

Can you share any information in regard: how we can act out--video--speech all the mentioned implemented for 30 minute presentation.

Thank you very very much

You certainly have quite a lot of work ahead to prepare your presentation.

You didn't mention where you are located.

If you were in Dublin, I would be very happy for you to visit my personal library which would have a lot of the references you need.

You also didn't mention what the deadline for the project is. This will have an effect on what you can accomplish.

The end result will also be affected by the amount of personal time members of the team will have to devote to what you are doing.

Some students doing this kind of project divide the topic between them, and make it like a performance of linked 'solos'. Would that be acceptable to your tutors?

I will think about it, and you can share more ideas with me if you write again.

Q.5.

Joining ITA

I just submitted an Associate Member application to ITAA.

I am interested in discovering what ITAA qualifications, seminars and other events may be offered in the UK?

My interest in TA has three distinct points of reference:

I’m Ok, You’re Ok (1979),

Scripts People Live : Transactional Analysis of Life Scripts (1999),

and the 1999-2001 course of study I have undertaken in Analytical & Cognitive Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy

If you could point me in the direction of a web site or provide contact details of groups organisations related to ITAA in the UK I would be very thankful.

Welcome to ITAA. I suggest that you also join ITA which is the UK organization. ITA (Institute of Transactional Analysis)

Hope this helps

Q.7 Sending a Web Link or Webpage

Please explain how you get an email to be a web page at the same time and how did you append your note to it?

There are three questions here:

1. How do you send someone else the webpage you are browsing? When you are on someone's webpage, and think to yourself ", I know someone who would enjoy this,"

Click File (on menu bar of Netscape or Internet Explorer, whichever browser you are using.)

NETSCAPE

Then click Send Page (sometimes it has Send Frame, so you could use that if you don't want to send the whole page.)

INTERNET EXPLORER

Click Send

You get to choose either Page or Link.

If you click Link, the person just gets the URL (webpage address) and clicks it from their e-mail, or can cut and paste it into the Location box in the browser.

If you click page, they may get the whole page that you are looking at. Not everyone appreciates getting the whole page, as sometimes it takes a while to download, and may delay them collecting other mail.

Whichever you click, in whichever browser, your e-mail programme will open automatically.

Type in the person's address.

Add any remarks you want to add.

That should do the trick.

2. How do you send the whole webpage? First you must have your own e-mail programme enabled to send HTML

Second the other person must have their e-mail program enabled to receive HTML. Both of these are done through preferences/options on one of the menus of the e-mail program. It differs with different programs. you have to experiment with the program you use.

3. How do you add remarks?

As you have just read, you add remarks before you send the e-mail.

Q.8

TA Exercises

I am writing because I am currently doing a presentation on Transactional analysis for my counselling course.

Instead of going over the theory that has been already taught in class, I have decided to do my presentation on exercises in transactional analysis. I am finding it hard to find any really self exploring exercises and was wondering whether you have any that you could E Mail to me.

The best place to get TA exercises is in the work of Muriel James. The classic, which is available in many bookshops is Born to Win (Written with Dorothy Jongeward). Their exercises explore at various depths.

The other more modern book with excellent excercises is TA Today by Ian Stewart and Vann Joines, Published by Lifespace ISBN 1-870244-00-1

Let me know if you need further info.

There will be a TA conference in Canterbury in early April, if that is near you, you might drop in and browse the bookstall. Details from ITA site

Q.9

Summer in Seskin (see also Whimsical article)

My first name is Seskin (dad's from Dublin) and I'm trying to trace the meaning of the name! It's kind of frustraiting not knowing anything about it. I don't suppose, by some small chance, you know?

I'm kind of guessing it was someones name once. Since there are a lot of places called "Seskins Something" or "Seskins Something else"

Any suggestions?

Our Seskin is called after a mountain, Mount Seskin, one of the Dublin Hills that you can see from our road, if you squint very hard!

I will see if I can find out any more information on the 'meaning'. Thanks for visiting my page

I think that's where my Dad got the idea. He was studying at Trinity and used to go up into the Dublin Hills when he was a student. Hmm. Well any light you can shed would be great!

Just to let you know that my husband has just shown me the meaning of Seskin in a small book on Irish Place Names

The word means a 'marsh' . (I think I would rather be called after a mountain than a marsh, though I have no doubt that the marshes on Mount Seskin are the finest in the world.

The book is Irish Place Names by PW Joyce (born 1827)originally published 1870, no date for current publication but looks fairly modern.

Published by Appletree Press Ltd

19-21 Alfred Street

Belfast BT2 8DL

ISBN 0 86281 127 9

Hope this helps

You HAVE to be joking?!

I'm a marsh? haha. Well I *HAVE* to laugh don't I?

At least it didn't mean BOG! (not that I'm sure there's much difference!)

Thanks for the help tracking this down for me! I will see if I can get the book ordered or a copy from the British Library.

If I'm ever in your part of the world I will let you know, I'm sure you have never had a large area of dank ground purchase you both a pint! ;)

Q. 10

TA group in Chicago

Neat stuff at your site!

I am a long-time student/devotee/fan of TA, and I wish there ws a group such as yours in Chicago. I thought I would ask you if you happen to know whether there is one?

I am not interested in joining a "therapy group" per se; but I am interested in joining a group which would operate as yours does.

Congratulations on your group and best of luck! If you happen to hear of a group operating or forming in Chicago, I sure would appreciate hearing about it!

Thanks for the strokes re TAI

Yes, I begin to realize we are lucky - that is, we are making our own 'luck'.

There are therapists at work in Chicago - several of the big names are listed in the ITAA directory.

I would imagine some of their former clients would really appreciate being part of an everyday kind of group now that they have left their old scripts behind.

We started by putting an ad in the paper - perhaps you could try that.

After that, we read the books and discussed them, nothing heavy, but helpful just the same.

Good luck, and yes, if I do hear of any group there, I certainly will let you know.

Q.11

Contacting

Dear Elizabeth,

I met XXX about 10 years ago,
I looked on the Internet for their name, as I'd like to contact them:

Yours was the only site I found that I could email.

I apologise enormously for the intrusion, but do you know an email address or a postal address for (or their publishers)?

When I get an enquiry like this, I am happy to pass on whatever information I have on contacting individuals. However, I only pass on information from the ITAA Directory, official TA publications, or other books and magazines. (In other words, information which is already in the public domain)

Q.12

TA Courses in Ireland

My husband found your address while looking at TA in the Internet.

I worked in abroad for two years, and I participated, then facilitated different workshops on Personal Development , dealing with Bereavement, Emotions and Forgiveness based on different tools taken from TA. Back in Europe,

I completed my studies in Theology and wrote my dissertation on my experience, mainly on how appropriate it is to use TA in an African context.

In 1999, I got married and came to live in Ireland . I would like to continue giving the workshops. My own experience and testimonies of previous participants have convinced me that they could be useful in any culture. And I would think that they could be appropriate for Ireland in dealing with past hurts.

I am a registered nurse with courses in counselling and pastoral care. I worked on the workshops with Dr Simon Gasibirege who created them. He is a Rwandese psychologist who studied in Belgium with Prof. Xavier Renders.

While writing my dissertation (MTh), I read different books on TA, including two written by Ian Stewart (UK). I was very much interested by his MA course, but was not able to join.

Could you give me information about what is available in Ireland? Are there courses given which would provide some kind of recognition? Where are the nearest places from Cork? Is there anything in Cork?

Thanks for the message. I am forwarding it to one of our members who lives in Killarney.

There are no TA courses as such run in Ireland. I have done some study in the UK. The cost of doing this now is prohibitive with the sterling conversion rate.

TAI would love to have you at any of our monthly workshops, but we rarely hire people to give presentations.

You might get some work in the business community. You could also contact some of the religious orders as some of them provide elements of personal development.

Finally, FAS, the government training authority also teach modules of personal development which might be an opening for you.

I wish you luck

Do write if you think I can help further

Q.13

TA Books

I'm searching for the following books:

Structure and Dynamics of Organisations and Groups by Eric Berne

Sex in Human Loving by Eric Berne pub. Penguin

Would you maybe be able to help me?

Structure and Dynamics of Organisations and Groups by Eric Berne SBN of Ballantine version (1973/74): 345-23481-2-195 (definitely out of print)

Try Amazon 'out of print' books.

Or try your public library. If they have library interloan, they may be able to get it from the British Library for you - I did this myself.

Or :-) if you are coming to Ireland, you can have a look at my copy.

Sex in Human Loving by Eric Berne pub. Penguin ISBN 0-14-003657-1

(I bought this new within the last five years, so may be still in print)

Hope this helps
