EDITORIAL

If you WANT it, You'll GET it!

These words were said to me a few years ago, when I dearly wanted to study for my degree, yet was convinced that it would be impossible for me to raise the fees.

To my surprise, the saying is true - I DID succeed.

The viability of TA in Ireland is going to need a similar desire in all of us - So activate your Child - and DREAM BIG.

If we want it, we CAN make our joint dream come true.

REPORT

March Meeting

Writing this in mid-Aporil with blossoms everywhere, it is startling to think that our March Meetings nearly didn't happen because there were blizzards bad enougth to close the airport.

Anyway, Mary Cox did get here, and she gave us a wonderful wee-end of information and good humour.

About 18 people took part, and all said they learned a great deal.

We look forward to their stimulating questions and discussion at furture meetings.

CONGRATS.

To all who received TA101 Certificates

Do send them to ITA in London for validation.

By doing so you will be helping to validate TAI.

TA Information/Study Night

TOPIC: Ego states (Which Me is I?)

6:00 pm to 8:00 pm SATURDAY April 22

Carmichael House, North Brunswick Street, Dublin 7 (beside former Richmond Hospital)

MAY 13 - Information/Study Night

TOPIC will be decided at the April Meeting.

THE FIRST SIGN OF SANITY

THERE IS AN OLD SAYING which says that TALKING TO YOURSELF is the first sign of madness - well TA would amintain that LISTENING TO YOURSELF could be the first sign of sanity.

Most people will have noticed that there is a fairly constant conversation going on inside their heads as they tell themselves to 'Buck Up' or make themselves get on with the less pleasant aspects of life, even when they feel more inclined to doss in the sunshine.

The APRIL TOPIC will deal with these ego states, as Eric Berne called them. It will also deal with how communication can be improved if I am aware of your ego state, and choose to take this into account when I talk to you.

Three ego-states can be seen - Parent when a person thinks, feels and acts as the grown-ups used to do when the person was small; Child when the person thinks, feels and acts again as they did in childhood; and Adult, when the person thinks feels and behaves in accordance with the reality in front of their two eyes.

BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!

You get more out of TAI discussions if you do a bit of BACKGROUND READING. There was a display of TA books at the TA101 Course, and orders were taken so that people could get their own copies. It is a very slow process - publishers' deliveries do not match the eagerness of students to buy.

We hope to negotiate with local booksellers to keep a TA stock, but it depends on your willingness to buy.

What are your LONG-TERM CAREER PLANS?

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF A COMPLETE CHANGE OF DIRECTION?

A professional TA-counselling course IS PLANNED TO Begin this winter.

The course will probably take five or six years to complete, and graduates will hold a qualification that is internationally recognised.

The fees will be expensive, but it may be possible to negotiate sponsored low-interest loans. People will continue in their current job if they have one.

It is envisaged that students will begin earning fees for supervcised work from the second or third year of study.

Tuition will take place at intensive week-end marathons, and students will be expected to commit themselves to a student therapy group. Further Information from TAI
