March Report:
TAI East Meeting
Elizabeth did the presentation at the March meeting.
The topic was Self- Re-Parenting, and she said she had a feeling of déjà
vu since it had been March last year when she had spoken on the same topic.
However the book 'It's Never too Late to be Happy'
has plenty of material still to be covered, so there was no sense of repetition.
The eight people present divided into small groups
to discuss what it might have been like to have had ideal parents, and
how they would be different now if they had had.
It was good to have Pat and Sam with us from TAI North.
EIGHT STEPS OF SELF-RE-PARENTING
(from Muriel James: It’s Never too late to be Happy, Page 16)
First comes the awareness that personal change is needed, that something important in life seems to be missing within. The ‘something missing ‘ is a nurturing parent who respects feelings and encourages clear thinking, freedom, autonomy, and joy.
Second is a reflection on parents in general, common parenting styles, and common responses to them.
Third comes the analysis of your own parent figures who, for better or worse, are incorporated into your personality structure.
Fourth is discovering what your inner Child needs and wants, and how to start getting it.
Fifth is deciding what is possible to get and who could assist in the process.
Sixth is clarifying the various sources of personal power that you are able to mobilise, so that you can take care of many of your needs and wants.
Seventh is the process of learning how to make contracts with yourself that will enhance your life.
Eighth is celebration - to emphasise your new-found courage to be and to do.
With these eight steps, you’ll have a new loving Parent within who will treat you with dignity, respect, and care, and see that you get the same treatment from others. You’ll have new hope, new success, new happiness.

Anyone for SWITZERLAND?
The international conference of Transactional Analysis will take place in Zurich August 1215 1998.
This conference is held every two years, and is a
great opportunity to hear the latest TA ideas from all over the world.
Cost is reasonable: 500 Swiss Fr.
(Swiss Fr are worth about 50p)
Think about it. It could be a great holiday
as well since TA conferences are well known for catering for the Child
in each participant.
