T.A.I. NEWSNOTES

July 1998 Vol. IV No. 8

EDITORIAL

REST AT LAST!

Thank you all for your patience. This has been a very busy Spring for me, but a very fulfilling one as well.

In February, I began a crash course to become an I.T Tutor. It was a great course, and covered a huge amount, not only the psychology of teaching, but also the application of it to Information Technology, a general course in how computers and allied machinery works, and specific directions on the different kinds of programmes we will be expected to teach.

I had a huge project to complete, teaching practice, and two written exams.

But now it is all finished, I have survived, and now I just have to await the results, due the beginning of August.

The other big news(s) for me are that I have signed my contract to do TA training; I am going to the Zurich MITAC conference, and I get to keep my job at Tallaght Community Mediation for another eighteen months.

So after all that excitement, I have now more or less rejoined the human race again.

One of my first tasks will be to pick up the pieces after what is known as a ‘hard disk crash’ on my computer. Basically this means much the same as an office fire. You can replace the furniture, but the loss of documents is difficult. Luckily I have back-ups of some stuff, but it will be time-consuming sorting it out.

AGM REPORT

Carlingford was quite an adventure for us this year. The heavy rain caused delays for some people travelling.

And when we arrived, we found that the venue was flooded as the nearby stream had burst its banks and cascaded down the hilly street into the building.

However, everyone was quite cheerful. The staff worked like trojans, and by evening they were able to serve us the meal we had ordered.

The sun even came out for a few minutes as we did some more sight-seeing. For such a small town, there is a great deal to see.

The AGM – went like clockwork, and took one minute less than last year.

The new Representatives are:

Pat Glass Carrickfergus,

Norma Conn, Carrickfergus

Aine Shiels, Swords

Hazel Luskin Coolmine the new Financial Controller

Geraldine Murphy Ringsend is the Auditor for the coming year.

All who formerly held these posts were thanked for their work, and they in turn promised to give any help needed to the newcomers.

MAY MEETING

This was a good meeting. Lorna came from Kilkenny and Pat and Jenny from Carrickfergus. Tony and Geraldine gave the presentation on TIME STRUCTURES, and it went down very well.

There was plenty of lively discussion afterwards.

WEBPAGE
http://indigo.ie/~liztai/tai_home.htm

If any of you sent me e-mails, I have lost your addresses in the crash. Will you please e-mail again.

Luckily the Page itself is stored on the Indigo server, so I will be able to download it and won’t have to write it all again.

Like everything else in my life, the Page hasn’t been updated recently.

Give me a week or two and then all will be back to normal.

CONGRATULATIONS to Rory & Jane Truell on the birth of their daughter Kitty. Rory hopes to give a TA 101 by the end of the year, and may also start TA training for those interested.
