EDITORIAL:

This month we are at the end of the SEAFA course. The trips to Larne are over for the moment, and some tears were shed at the ending of a truly excellent course.

The final day was really special with the certificates being presented by Roy Logan, Head of the Faculty in Larne Campus of East Antrim Institute of Higher and Further Education, who sponsored the course.

To wind up the proceedings, almost all the participants went for a very pleasant meal.

All too soon it was time for the Dublin contingent to be on the road, so with much hugging and with many phone numbers exchanged, the group who had come to know each other so well over the months since January, bade farewell.

We are also coming to the end of the second year of TAI.

We hope that as many of the members and their f amilies will join in the Celebration which is taking place next month. (June 14 1997)

APRIL REPORT

The April Meeting took place in our new venue in Phibsboro. Elizabeth re ported on some of the highlights of the Keele Conference.

She had prepared summary sheets of topics covered by the sessions she attended. The members chose topics which appealed to them, and she gave her usual eloquent interpretation of each topic raised.

This style of presentation lent itself to general participation, and everyone present had ample opportunity to discuss the items. The meeting ended with the usual cup of tea, coffee or water, according to taste.

The May meeting will also take place in the new venue. Don't forget, if you want to use the locked car-parking come a little early.

Look forward to seeing you there on May 17 at 7 p.m..

ERIC BERNE QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

Unadorned spaghetti tastes pretty much the same all over. It's the sauce that makes the difference. (Sex in Human Loving, page 244)

SPECIAL CELEBRATION DAY OUT (Details below)

Larne Group: SEAFA Course has been replacing monthly meetings. These will resume later in the year.

STEPHEN RICHARDS Therapy Sessions Phone 0044 1892 669859 for details.

MEETING FORMAT

Feedback so far on the new meeting format have been very positive, with the suggestion being made that an element of role-playing, or working in small groups would add to the effectiveness of the learning process.

It was also suggested that the main areas of TA will always benefit from being re-visited, and it is hoped that people will gain deeper understanding of the concepts each time.

SPECIAL CELEBRATION DAY OUT -

The Special Celebration Day has been arranged for 14 June.

Where:

The pretty town of Carlingford has been selected as the venue.

We checked it out, and the travel time is approximately 2 hours drive from Dublin, and slightly less from Larne.

AGENDA FOR THE DAY

1 p.m. Meeting time and place:

We plan to meet in the Carlingford Arms in the centre of Carlingford town for soup & sandwiches.

1.30 p.m. Third Annual General Meeting

The TAI members will adjourn to a room upstairs in the Carlingford Arms for the shortest AGM in Ireland.

2.00 p.m. Celebration time

The town of Carlingford offers a number of options.

There is a historical walk mapped out by the local Information Office.

A large ruined castle will provide adventure for the children of all ages.

A short distance out side the town there is a Forest Park which offers pleasant walks to suit all levels of fitness.

There is also a Tain Village which offers entertainment geared for the "official" children.

The idea is to spend some time getting to know each other in a non-TA context.

5.30 p.m. The Meal

At this point we will all assemble in the Restaurant of the Carlingford Arms for a meal. They offer a good selection of affordable food including a childrens menu.

Don't forget how changeable the Irish weather is! Bring rain gear and comfy shoes so you can get the best from the day.

Look forward to meeting old friends and making new ones, with families if possible!

SUMMER BREAK

TAI will wind up with the Special Celebration Day and will resume in September. The next News Notes at the end of August will give notice of date and venue.
