I am really enjoying reading / studying this book. It is a practical 'how to' book, written from the point of view of TA in Education.
In the Foreword, Jean Illsley Clarke remarks:

The invitation to explore new ways to support, encourage, and respect learners permeates the book.
My experience of being taught by all three (Trudi, Rosemary and Jean) has been that this book puts their 'practice into theory'. Although as I said above, this is a practical book, and there is far more practice than theory in it, there is a list of references at the end of each chapter to back up all that they suggest.

The book is large format, spiral bound and divided into 10 Sections.
Topics covered range from Learning & Adults to Managing Conflict and from Working in Groups to Contracting for Learning.
The style of writing is straightforward and easy to read, the diagrams are clear and well labelled. A nice touch is the use of symbols for each section as well as section references rather than page numbers (e.g. 2.3)
The print is clear and a different font is used for exercises. (Design and lasersetting are by David Newton)

While the main thrust of the content is aimed at 'people in a variety of psot-compulsory educational contexte', in my opinion parts of this book would be valuable to anyone teaching anyone - including parents who would learn a lot from the section on the stages of human development, based on the work of Pam Levin.
To me it is always heartening that know that we get a second chance - As section two says:

... we have certain developmental tasks to complete - yet few of us achieve these in a way which fully meets our developmental needs. Rather, we may be rushed through a stage, or linger too long, or experience a traumatic event. As we recycle in later lefe we have more opportunites for completion and growth - and we may experience the same problems that occurred to us before, and repeat the same strategies that were less than totally successful originally, or we may respond to encouragement to do things differents.
Reading this book is in itself an encouragement to do things differently. I highly recommend it to anyone who is involved in 'education' in the broadest sense of the word.
