RETAIL
Each
year the retail committee, organised by it's chairperson, Mr Gerard McCormick,
arranges a very successful shopping spree under
the Irish Trade Board's 'Look To Our Own' slogan. It is hoped that this
success will continue for many years in the future.
In recent times, Letterkenny Garda Station in association with the Chamber
organised information evenings on 'Law and Regulations Pertaining to Shop-Lifting
and Trespassing on Business Premises' and also on the subject of 'Fraud'.
These seminars were well received by all who attended and were very informative.
Many shops in the town have now purchased Crimepage
pager systems, which are capable of sending messages to the Gardai and
all the other pager holders in a matter of minutes, thus alerting the town
to the presence of shoplifters, dud cheques, forged notes, etc. It is hoped
that this system will help to prevent crime in our town. Garda Joe Lynch
has been appointed as the Business Watch Liaison Officer, and the Chamber
hopes to work closely with him in the future.
This year, the retail committee of the Chamber
of Commerce, orgainised a customer care training course for it's members,
which was run by FAS. This course was grant-aided up to a maximum of 80%.
Approximately ten people participated in the course. It is hoped to build
on this initial training and to run similar and more advanced training
in the future.
