Lord Baker's is believed to be the oldest pub in Dingle. In 1890 Tom Baker, who came from Gallaras, purchased this well located premises and in a short space of time he transformed it into a hive of activity trading in wine and spirits, tea, flour, wool and general farm supplies as well as catering for wedding receptions.

A very popular businessman and an excellent and colourful orator, Tom Baker was elected to Kerry County Council. He later became a successful auctioneer and was appointed as Director of the Tralee-Dingle Railway. Held in very high esteem in Dingle Town and in the surrounding parishes he was, in effect, the local ombudsman and was affectionately referred to as "Lord Baker".

He was recognised as a poet writing in his native Irish language and was often published in Patrick Pearse's journal "An Claíomh Solais". Tom Baker died in 1934 and is buried at Kilmalkedar.

Le Sceal as Gaeilge

Meastar gurb é seo an tigh tábhairne is sine sa Daingean. Sa bhliain 1890 cheannaigh Tomás Báicéar ó Ghallaras an tigh breá-lonnaithe seo agus, laistigh de thamall gearr, bhí sé gníomhach ag soláthar beorach agus biotáille, tae, plúir, olla agus ag riaradh cóisirí bhainise.

Duine mór le rá agus cainteoir iontach ab ea Tomás Báicéar a thoghadh ina bhall de Chomhairle Chontae Chiarraí. D'éirigh go maith leis mar cheantálaí agus ceapadh é ina stiúrthóir ar Iarnród Thrá Lí-An Daingin. ;Bhí meas chomh hard san ag pobal an Daingin agus an cheantair máguaird air gur aithníodh é mar idirscéalaí agus tugadh le dea-mhéin an leasainm "Lord Baker" air.

Bhí ard-ainm air mar fhile sa Ghaolainn agus foilsíodh roinnt dá chuid filíochta sa "Claíomh Solais" ag Pádraig Mac Piarais. Fuair Tomás Báicéar bás sa bhliain 1934 agus tá sé curtha i Reilig Chill Maolchéadair.
