Aughrim
The village of Aughrim is one of the most beautiful villages in Ireland.
Situated in a valley where the River Ow meets the River Derry it boasts gratifying granite
buildings, the granite being supplied from a local quarry in Tinnakilly.
Its greenery, river banks and general attractions such as the old forge have been widely
acclaimed not least by the Tidy Towns Association as Aughrim has been awarded the tidiest
village in Wicklow from 1996 to date and is hotly tipped to win the national title in the
coming years.
Also a historic area, there is a plaque for Anne Devlin, fateful servant to Robert Emmet
on the bridge. To commerorate the two hundreth anniversary of the 1798 Rebellion a fine monument
was erected which stands in the centre of the village.
