Battlefield 2 - PC

.

Battlefield two is the sequel to Battlefield 1942 and also Battlefield Vietnam. It is an online multiplayer first person shooter with scalable maps for 16, 32 and 64 players with enhanced squad support including VoIP.

The objective of the game is to capture enemy flags while defending your own and also decreasing the enemy’s tickets to zero. If more than half a map’s flags are captured by the one side, the enemy tickets will decrease also every time a player is killed a ticket will be lost from whatever side the loss has occurred.

There are three armies you may choose from to fight for, each are individual in their weapons, vehicles, language, Skin colour and uniform. These include the United States Marine Corps (USMC), Middle Eastern Coalition (MEC) and the Peoples Liberation Army (PLC).

Each army is equipped with a wide variety of modern real world weapons which is assorted into various soldier kits which you may choose from. You can choose to be special forces, sniper, assault, support, medic, engineer and anti-tank. Each kit is individual in its weaponry and its roll on the battlefield. Every kit is provided with a combat knife and pistol There is also an unlock weapon for each kit which you earn in multiplayer.

Each army is also equipped with their own individual real world vehicles. Land vehicles include main battle tanks, amphibious personal carriers, armed four wheel drive attack vehicles and quick light attack buggies. Airborne vehicles include dedicated fighter and bomber planes, helicopter gunships and armed troop transport helicopters. The rib is the seaborne vehicle which is available to each army.

This game has no single player campaign, it does have some 16 player maps which you may practise on against the ai before you go multiplayer. You can improve single player by downloading larger maps and modifying game files so you can change the amount of ai bots which will be available to fight and the amount of tickets available per side, along with unlock weapons. You may also modify other aspects of the game, (if you can be bothered). A good download source is Planet Battlefield

One warning, if you intend on modifying even the smallest file you will not be able to play on ranked servers online and may be banned from that server for a week due to EA restrictions.

EA obviously did not have this game finished on release due to the fact that there is over a gigabyte of patches available for download. Each of which make small changes which effects the game play, or game stability, mostly for the better.

To fully appreciate this game you need at least a 2.5GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 256MB graphics card although the game will run on less. High connection speed is also needed for multiplayer.

Overall I give this game a well deserved 7 out of 10, excellent Realism, gameplay and graphics and features such as bullet drop (even if not correct) make this game top of its class. Lack of a singleplayer campaign along with the need to download the latest patch and other software take the score down.

Word from the Editor/Admin

Just a few quick hints from someone that learnt how to play this the hard way, being screamed at by an impatient friend. If your sniping stay on the 3rd level of a crane so the artillery will miss you, go prone while shooting or at least crouch, stay close to medics and support, try and go for headshots at all times, and use a pistol or a knife at close range. In the words of the master, "If you see something brown on the ground, shoot it, cos its probably a chink trying to shoot you".
