In recent years a Municipal 18-hole Golf Course has been developed at Mahon. It was opened on September 3rd 1980 by the Lord Mayor of Cork at the time, Toddy O' Sullivan. It is set between Clover Hill and the estuary of the Douglas River and commands a delightful view of Lough Mahon and the gently sloping hills of Rochestown. originally it was built as a 12 hole course with six hole to be played twice to make up the 18, but was extended to an 18 hole course in 1986 due to the prompt repayment of the loan.

The degree of success of the course has increased over the years. With greenfees always in excess of £150,000 Cork corporation have decided to invest further. Provision of three new holes to replace those which had to be taken out of commission due to the construction of the Southern Ring Road was completed in 1997.

Further development works continue to be carried out and has increased the length of the course by 500 yds. and the par from 68 to 70. This amenity continues to be a success with golfers. Green fees are available and golfing societies are welcome to reserve the tee. Details may be obtained from The Green Fees Office, Mahon Golf Course, Skehard Road, Cork - Tel. No. 021 4294280 or from the Environment Section, City Hall, Cork - Tel. No. 021 4966222, Extn. 4323 or 4333. For more information, click here. Golf clubs and equipment may be hired at the Course - further details available at the Green Fees Office.
