Dangan Church

St.Brigid's Church, Dangan, is situated adjacent to Dangan school. It was built in 1842 by Rev. Edward Keogh and his parishioners. The work was all done by voluntary labour. Each year, Dangan school's First Communion ceremony takes place in this church. Pupils from our school serve mass there.

Mon. Mícheál Mc Guinness has been our curate since 1996. He lives in the presbytery which is joined on to the church. Years ago, three priests lived there. The presbytery was once a school. Our church has always been well maintained over the years. Mon. Mícheál Mc Guinness often celebrates a classroom mass for us.

Very little is known of the early history of Dangan church. It consists of one main aisle and two side aisles. The sacristy is to the rear of the altar. The present confessionals are at the end of the main aisle just underneath the gallery. The choir sing from the gallery. The sanctuary lamp is to the left of the altar and the tabernacle is on a raised shelf to the back of the altar. The tricolour and papal flag are on either side of the sanctuary.
