This house was the home of Sir Gilbert King. Some of the stones from Kilmore Abbey were used to build this house. It was a two storey late-Georgian house. Charlestown House was also a military post during the Emergency years 1939-1945 and was occupied by a detachment of the 8th Thamond Infantry Battalion.The local Defence Force were trained and carried out military duties there also.
