The Presentation House used to be an infantry militia barracks before it became a school for boys.The Presentation brothers came to Carrick -on -Shannon in 1894 at the invitation of Canon Hoare. They rented premises on Main St. and set up a school, preparing boys for examinations. In 1898, a new school was built by the parish on Summerhill where the E.S.B. now stands. In 1911, the brothers purchased the Presentation house from the war office .It became a monastery. In 1944, it was a flourishing secondary school. It was amalgamated with the Marist secondary school in 1972 to become Marymount College. My daddy went to the Presentation House school. He was taught by the Presentation brothers. In 1975, Presentation College was sold and turned it into apartments and a doctor's surgery.
