Masonite

Introduction
Masonite Ireland is one of the largest manufacturing factories in Ireland, if not Europe, and is situated on the banks of the River Shannon in Annaduff, Co Leitrim. It cost about 90 million to build Masonite. Masonite manufactures door facings.

Masonite
The Project manager of Masonite is Henry Coghlan. Masonite set up in mid 1997. Masonite is a huge Factory and under roof is about 15 acres and altogether is about 75 acres. Masonite is built beside the River Shannon and is along side the N4 Road. Masonite built their factory on a land that was once a forest, but Masonite has planted around 40,000 trees and shrubs in the forests absence, also they have planted these trees because the factory is in full view from the N4 road on which the factory was built. Masonite employs about 330 people and these jobs can be in or off site, and some of these jobs are in catering, accommodation, timber packaging, paint and door manufacturing. Masonite will create a further number of jobs in variety of areas including transport and forestry. Already Lily Industries has set up a paint plant to specifically supply Masonite. When the factory first set up lots of people mostly from around the Leitrim area, but also a lot from other neighbouring counties came to work in the factory. Masonite is associated with a worldwide organization called International Paper, International Paper makes high quality paper and they are stationed all around the globe.

The Project
The door facing have to go through a lot of machines because they have to be made into doors first, then they are waxed to make them stronger, then they are painted and finally they are stored until needed.
Masonite can store 500,000 panels in there storage rooms. Masonite make about 14 million door facings each year. The doors that Masonite make are Craftmaster designs and International Paper help out Masonite. The good thing about Masonite being so close to sawmills is that these sawmills are a major supplier of raw materials like wood and woodchips and they do not have to spend much money on transport.
