Becoming The Tree

The five paintings and commentary presented here tell the story of a sickness and a healing.

Jill Teck in August 1994 was diagnosed as having Acute Myloid Leukemia, underwent intensive chemotherapy in University College Hospital, Galway, and survived with no ill effects to tell the tale.

Jill now sees the value of the experience, as it has transformed her whole life and attitude to living.

After her illness, Jill came into contact with the work of Louise Hay, and the five paintings of the book were shown at Louise Hay's conference in Dublin in 1995. She has made a point of studying the subject of Mind-Body Medicine, including several trips abroad to conferences given by Deepak Chopra. She is also studying art therapy, and is particularly interested in the role of art in healing.

Since writing 'Becoming The Tree' Jill has seen many changes in her external as well as her inner life, all of which Jill views with excitement and optimism.

Doctors get insight into cancer patient's feelings

Decision to seek new life out of Ashes of Despair

Becoming The Tree (Auburn House, 1997). Adapted and directed by Ann Henning Jocelyn for the Connemara Theatre Company Ltd., it has had several stage presentations, most recently for medical staff from University College Hospital Galway, St. James's Hospital and Trinity College Dublin.
