The journey to find the music for this production has been shared with well over a hundred people, whose ideas and spirits are bound into it.

Derek Nesbet - Composer

Derek Nisbet is a composer based in Coventry.

Over the past 10 years he has composed music for film, television, theatre, radio, dance and the concert hall. Much of his work has been with a cross-artform production company called Talking Birds, for whom he has composed fourteen theatre scores, including 'Black Box' and 'Solid Blue' (for more info visit <http://www.talkingbirds.co.uk>).

Many of these shows have been co-produced with the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.

His recent collaborations have included work with dancers, actors, a poet, acrobats and a tightrope walker - as part of Coventry's Millennium Eve celebrations he wrote a piece for the organ of Coventry Cathedral, which was performed as a prelude to a high-wire tightrope walk by Frenchman Ramon Kelvink.

Derek is delighted to be part of the team for Mysteries 2003.

About Talking Birds

Talking Birds is a Coventry-based company of artists engaged in the transformation of spaces - both real and imagined. We make work in increasingly diverse locations and across different scales, using an ever-expanding range of artforms, technologies, and collaborators. We use language, performance, design, sound, music, video, computers and film in our work, and a lot of the work we do is made for specific sites - such as a seaside town's seafront promenade, an aircraft hangar, a Slovakian mayor's balcony, a 14th century monastery or an underground car park.

As architects of ideas which are realised through a range of artistic means, our key aims are to extend excellence in cross artform practice; to engage a broad and diverse audience; and to realise ambitious artworks through collaboration.

In 2002, the company marked its tenth year with the [HELLOLAND*] project, creating ten new artworks and twelve new webworks.

Past works include:

Wanderlust a site specific performance installation in the South Bay underground car park in Scarborough, Solid Blue site specific show trial made for Whitefriars - the 14th century monastery nestling amongst the Coventry ring road flyovers,

Blackbox touring theatre performance,

2 letters and Recent Past filmswith live music made in collaboration with orchestra London Musici,

Undercurrent outdoor mixed media residency at the Sun Court in Scarborough in collaboration with Create,

Girl With A Movie Camera video short,

CityScapes audio tour of Coventry and Hypnogogia, an elegy for two performers and eleven televisions
