LEFT-WING ravers
The Manic Street Preachers were so upset at the treatment
received by guitarist Richey James when he went into a Cardiff
NHS hospital that they swallowed their principles - and moved him
into private care.
Singer James Dean Bradfield says: "He wasn't getting any
better. There was an attitude that people who can't afford
private care should be grateful for what they are given."
Richey, 27, was suffering from nervous exhaustion as he struggled
to cope with his new-found star status. He was drinking heavily
and had taken to slashing his arms with a knife on stage and
during interviews.
But now he's back in fine form, with the band charting at No 25
with She Is Suffering.
