MYRA HINDLEY & IAN BRADY
Myra Hindley did not work alone. In fact, according to her, Ian Brady was not only her accomplice, but the master-mind andmotivator of the murders. Regardless who actually instigated the crimes, the duo committed crimes so horrendous that even the most seasoned of law enforcement officers were shocked.

The place was a town called Hattersley, England...surrounded by moors. It was the 1960's. Hindley was 23 and Brady was 28. They lived in her grandmother's home. Although not really "known" by too many of their neighbors, none of them would have guess the capabilities of these two.

The couple had a fondness for murdering, torturing, and in at least one instance, audio-taping the screams of their victims. They also took pornographic pictures showing sexual abuse.

Their down-fall came when they were trying to turn their duo into a trio. The person they were trying to recruit was Hindley's brother-in-law (David Smith). Figuring Smith would be interested because of his long history of violence and heavy drinking, the couple thought they could persuade the man by using a live demonstration. Brady axed a 17 year old male 14 times and then strangled the victim as well. Smith helped Hindley and Brady clean up the mess and get the body ready for burial. All the while, Brady made jokes about the victim. The next morning, Smith and his wife went to the police.

Suspected of at least 11 other murders, they denied their guilt. However, one thing that helped to locate the needed bodies for evidence, was a photo Brady had taken of Hindley on the moors. She was looking down at a patch of dirt which was dis-placed. The body of a boy (John Kilbride, 12) was found there. So the police knew where to look for other bodies.

Leslie Downey, 10, was one. She had been missing for 10 months. Downey had been photographed in pornographic positions while being sexually assaulted. She was tortured and audio taped during the last moments of her life.

During the trial, neither Brady nor Hindley showed remorse. Both were sentenced to life. They are still in prison at this time. Although recently, Hindley tried to get paroled, she was denied. The judge has stated that she will indeed spend the rest of her days in prison - no chance of ever being paroled.
