Marathon Basketball has by far the most well developed underage program in the Midwest area. The club caters for children as young as 10yrs. Teams are at U12, U14, U16, U17 and U19 age levels. Training takes place on Saturdays from about 11am to 3:30pm. We encourage new players to come along to train these saturdays in the Ardscoil Rís Gym on North Circular Road in Limerick. If you require additional information don't hesitate to contact the club or just sign the guestbook and I'll get back to you.
During the Off-Season
During the off-season this year the club hosted an international underage tournament at its home gym in Ardscoil Rís. This tournament proved to be very successful with 3 American Teams competing along with 2 home team and some Cork teams also. This competition was open to teams at Under19 Age levels and provided a very high level of competition for the less experienced players in the club. After an exciting weekend of competition a home team and an American team ended up in the final. This had the makings of what proved to be an exciting final. Marathon battled hard for the whole game but unfortunatley didn't have a strong enough bench to emerge victorious. After a closley contested game the visiting American Team emerged with a hard earned win.
Also running concurrent to this during the summer there was also a girls tournament running in the Salesians Gym. This tournament also had some american teams home teams and a very impressive Irish side.
The future U19 team trained hard during the summer in preparation for a long 20 game season in the Cork league next year. We wish them the best of luck.
