Badminton Rules

From 1 August 1998

Setting will now only apply at 14-all (10-all in ladies' singles or 20-all in a game of 21 points). In all cases the choice will be a) not to set, as before, or b) to set the game to 17 points (13 points in ladies' singles or 23 points in a game set at 20-all). NOTE: In all cases setting is now 3 points. The score will not be called love-all after setting but will be continued (i.e. 15-14 to 17-16 as appropriate).
A 90-second interval has been introduced between the first and second games. During a 90-second interval a player may not leave the court but may receive advice from a coach. Like the five-minute interval the BAE is proposing this should not be adopted except where prior approval of the BAE has been given and this will only be approved for international events or events which are umpired throughout.
