Clements

When I say the words Áras An Uachtaráin you immediately associate it with the presidents of Ireland. Well, let me tell you something. Áras An Uachtaráin had a bright and interesting past before Douglas Hyde ever moved in.

It was built by a man named Nathenial Clements in 1751as a home for him and his family. Clements in his time was a Chief Park Ranger in the Phoenix Park who later became an architect. When he and his wife died their son Robert sold the house to the Goverment, which later became the official residence of the Vicroys. Today we know the house as the prominent home for the Irish Presidents.

There are seven rooms open to the public one of which is the Entrance Hall. In it, is a magnifacint coffered barrel-vaulted ceiling. The style of which is from Clements era. After reading this we hope you now look at Áras An Uachtaráin in a different perspective.
