Mary Robinson was born Mary Bourke on the 21st of May 1944 in Ballina County Mayo. She studied law and became a professor at Trinity College Dublin. She was married to Nicolas Robinson in 1970. They have two sons and one daughter. Mary was a feminist and worked very hard for womens rights in Ireland.

She ran for president in 1990. Mary was inaugurated on the 3rd of December in 1990 as Irelands 7th president. While she was in office she visited the Royal family in England which is somthing an Irish Head of State had never done before. Her term ended in 1997 and she was appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Human Right which is still her possition today.

She was elected Ireland's youngest senitor in 1969 at the age of 25.
