Mary Mc Aleese like all the other
Presidents had to promise in oath to "dedicate my abilities to the service
and welfare of the people of Ireland" . This cermony takes place every seven
years in Dublin Castle. Herself and her family then packed their bags and
moved into the palace of Ireland, Áras an Uachtaráin.
Being President is a highly regarded
job and she always works on behalf of the people. However Mary doesn't have
as much power as our Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, for instance. She is continuosly
working for peace in Ireland. She signs many bills into the law from her library.
Mary represents Ireland at important functions and meetings. Because she is
head of state she is also head of the army. She has an assistant who helps
and guides her, called an Adacom.
We hope Mary Mc Aleese stays President
for the full fourteen years as we highly respect her and think she does her
job very well.
