The Fallow Deer

Written by 2nd Class

The Phoenix Park has been home to a herd of Fallow Deer since 1662. The fallow deer can have red or brown coats with white spots.

In the winter their coats are thicker and sometimes they lose their spots altogether.

Male deer have antlers and they use these to fight other deer. These fights are called ruts.

B aby deer are called fawns and are born concealed in undergrowth.

They are born in June and weigh 10 pounds.
