Running in the the Phoenix Park.

The Phoenix Park is the biggest city central park in Europe. A lot of people use it to keep fit by jogging or especially running.

Because it is so big all sorts of races are held there.

Cross Country,

Road races and

Orientering are held in the park.

Sometimes walk-racing is held.

The first Goal Mile was held in the park in 1982. The winner was Eamon Coghlan from Dublin.

Sometimes the Dublin City Marathon passes through the park. Dublin Cross Country Championships and National Cross Country Championships are also held in the park.

The Oman Cup for men was held in the park. It was 2.3miles long. The womens race was called The Loughrey Cup. It was also 2.3miles long.

Relays were held in the polo grounds.

The park is 10 miles all around so you can run around it without once repeating yourself. Dublin Cross Country Championships and National Cross Country Championships are held in the Magazine hills. During the war bullets and guns were stored in the fort at the top of the hills. It is two miles long so it is great for Cross Country races.

On the road at the bottem of the hills turf was stored during the war. All sorts of clubs train on the hills. One of them is local club Celtic Athletic club which was recently found a couple of yeaers ago by Mary Mc Kenna. They train there every Sunday. Another group that train there are D.C.H.(Dublin City Harriers) wich is a senior group. In front of St. Marys hospital there is a triangular shape wich is excatly half a mile so they train there as well. Donore Harriers hold a Turkey run at Christmas. They also hold the Jingle Bells 5k in aid of Simon. I think that DCH and Donore Harriers are the best clubs in the country.
