Admission to Trinity College
04 November, 2004 Several people have contacted me regarding the increased A-Level requirements for entry to College - four instead of three subjects to be presented. Following a benchmarking exercise in the United Kingdom it was felt scoring policies should be changed between A-Levels and Leaving Certificate. It was agreed that students with three A-Levels had an advantage over Leaving Certificate Students. University College Cork has for many years demanded that four A-Levels be presented for the high demand courses there and Trinity has decided to do likewise and increase our entry requirements to four A-Levels. Most high demand courses in the U.K. have interviews for candidates whereas we do not. Also, A-Levels can be taken in stages during the year, November, January and June, whereas the Leaving Certificate subjects must all be taken in June. A-Level students have some advantage and it is hoped this change will not deter students with A-Levels from applying to Trinity.
