At 10:30 on Sunday morning 3 hillwalkers from Dublin and Wicklow set off to climb
Nephin mountain. After 1 and a half hours one of the walkers disturbed some rocks and
these fell on him injuring his legs.
The party had a mobile phone with them and they alerted the Mayo Mountain Rescue Team
who immediately called out the rescue helicopter from Finner Air Base in Donegal.
Fortunately the visibility and weather conditions were good and the helicopter was able to
evacuate the casualty to Castlebar Hospital. Mayo Mountain Rescue Team members waited
at the scene until the rest of the party were safely back down at their cars before leaving the scene.
