BMW IRISH MIXED FOURSOMES CHALLENGE CUP 2004

Munster Pennant for Woodstock Golf Club.

Woodstock Golf Club’s Mixed Foursomes panel won the Munster Final at Thurles Golf Club on Saturday August 7th. The challenge began at Ennis Golf Club on Saturday June 19th when 8 clubs participated in the North Munster Stroke play Qualifier.

Woodstock, Ennis, Lahinch and Kilkee qualified for the Matchplay rounds. Woodstock beat Lahinch and then Kilkee to reach a place in the North Munster Area Final which was played at Limerick Golf Club on June 30th. Woodstock defeated Nenagh, All Ireland Finalists of 2003 3.5/1.5 in a hotly contested Final. Two matches went down the nineteenth. Tony Nugent and Vera Madden’s match was one down playing the 18th having been 6 down after 10 and Tony chipped into the hole to level the match. Holes 19 and 20 were halved and the match was won on the third tie hole.

The team members were : Kyran Cunnane (1) and Fran Feighery (22), Paddy Meehan (5) and Mary Sadlier (15), Paul Coote (8) and Carmel Verling (15), Cathal O’Connor (4) and Marianne McGough (17), Tony Nugent (5) and Vera Madden (17), Reserves: Michael O’Brien (14) and Anne Marie Russell (9).

78 clubs participated in the Munster area.

Woodstock, Templemore, Macroom, and Kanturk reached The Munster Semi Finals at Thurles Golf Club where Woodstock beat Templemore in the morning Semi Final 3/2 and Kanturk in the Final in the afternoon by the same score.

The team members for the Munster Semi-Final and Final were: Paddy Meehan (5) and Mary Sadlier (15), Paul Coote (8) and Carmel Verling (15), Cathal O’Connor (4) and Marianne McGough (17), Tony Nugent (5) and Vera Madden (17), Michael O’Brien (14) and Anne Marie Russell (9). Reserves Brian Dinan (9) and Margaret Anne Killeen (15).

The National Semi-finals and Final are to be held at Hollystown Golf Club, Dublin on Thursday September 2nd and Friday September 3rd respectively.

Team Captains are Marianne McGough and Michael Cullinan.
