Camogie is an ancient Irish game similar to hurling but played by ladies
only. A hurl made of Ash is used and a small leather ball called
a Sliotor. In Mountmellick Community School, we are fortunate as
we have both a senior and junior camogie team. We also have excellent outdoor
and indoor facilities and many highly skilful players. The school
participates in numerous competitions each year including the Leinster
Colleges Camogie and the Vocational Schools League also. With a promising
up and coming junior team and a experienced senior team, the future looks
bright for Mountmellick Community School camogie. Many of the students
who play for the school are highly commendable players who have played
not only for their local clubs but also on the Laois County teams. We,
the students feel that camogie is a valuable asset to the broad range of
extra curricular activities available in the school as it allows us to
intermix, not only with other years but with players from all over the
country.
