Meath and District Motor Club were established in May 2001. As a club our purpose is to promote the growth and development of motorsport in our area. With approximately 70 members to date we are affiliated to the sports governing body here in Ireland, Motorsport Ireland. As a general motor club we are not confined to any particular aspect of the sport. We have something to offer everybody that wishes to join, from karters to circuit racers to marshals to rally. We hope that as a club we can help you to enjoy motorsport in Ireland to the fullest. All our members receive a monthly newsletter keeping them up to date with all the activities of the club. This homepage is in addition to that although the main purpose of this webpage is to keep all motorsport fans in our area informed on how our local drivers are doing in their respective championships. All local competitors are encouraged to submit articles and results to the webpage. We try to keep up to date but sometimes, especially on busy weekend’s it is hard to keep ahead of things so all contributions are welcomed and should be sent to

mdmc@eircom.net

The Meath and District webpage is updated every Wednesday night at 9pm unless it is a live update weekend where reports are updated throughout the day.

Athboy, the story so far!

Work on the track at Athboy is well on its way to completion with new tyre wall barriers in place and corners made safer. Late in 2003 a safety officer along with representatives of Motorsport Ireland inspected the track and made their recommendations known to us. We have been working around the clock to ensure that these recommendations are implemented fully for the safety of karters not just on the dates of our meetings but throughout the whole year. See the ‘Athboy Progress’ section on the news page of the Irish karting website

Motorsport Ireland has recently implemented a ‘Code of Conduct for Children’ in motorsport. Karting is the area most affected by this. A copy of the code is available on request from club secretary by email mdmc@eircom.net

Rally Scene

Post your rallynews here - Email mdmc@eircom.net

Text Box: White’s New Subaru 01/04/04
Top rally driver Paddy White has recently acquired an ex-Tommy Makkiken Subaru Impreza S8. The left-hand-drive machine has been totally rebuilt by leading Subaru experts Prodrive and the car will get it’s first run in Kerry this weekend. White, who hopes to stay with left hand drive for the rest of the season will use this weekend’s event in Kerry as a shakedown for the Circuit of Ireland that takes place on Easter weekend.

Circuit of Ireland 01/04/04
The Circuit of Ireland, round two of the Pirelli Irish Tarmac championship, will take place on Easter weekend the 9th-12th of April covering approximately 400 miles with 23 special stages. Supported once again by Buy & Sell magazine this will be the 71st running of the ‘Circuit’. Local driver James Foley is leading the Group N category but will have the likes of Aaron McHale and Dicke Curran looming large in his rear-view mirror.

Astra Stages Rally 29/03/04
This weekend Rory Galligan will contest the Astra Stages rally, round 2 of the Mitsubishi Evo challenge, hoping to make it back to back wins in the series after his maiden win in round one. Martin Brady will navigate for Brendan Murphy at the Astra for the opening round of the Welsh national championship. Graham Quinn is entering a hired Mitsubishi Evo 7 for the Kerry event on Sunday.

Brady competes in clubman event by Martin Brady 29/03/04
I competed in Kilbroney Clubman’s, in Rostrevor Co Down on Saturday with Derek Tracy in a hired 106, we finished the rally in the 40s but last in class, that was all we wanted as Derek needed a finish for a signature to upgrade his licence- we had a sticking throttle all day which gave us some very nervous moments!!! so we took it very cautious as it was a tarmac stage but in a forest park with some very dangerous tress, and where there was no trees there was plenty of fresh air! but he got to the finish and now we are planning our first rally in the UK which may be the Pirelli in his Group A Lancer Evo 6.
Then I was due to compete in Mitchellstown forest today (Sunday) but Jason Kelly who I was going with in the 106 had a problem with his gearbox as he got ready to travel down and didnt want to drive all that way and risk a non finish which is probably what would have happened as it was sticking in 3rd and 2nd was going as well. I had another seat but I didn’t know the guy so I decided not to take the risk of sitting in with a lunatic and getting hurt and maybe missing the Astra stages. Also the minute I land back on Sunday I’m straight up to Enniskillen to recce for the Circuit of Ireland so it’s a busy time and not one to be out of action for.
Donoghue Delighted with third 08/03/04
Round 3 of the Irish rallycross championship took place at Mondello Park on Sunday where Dan Donoghue, Trim finished 3rd in the supercar final behind championship leader Dermot Carnegie and John McCluskey. David Donoghue, Drumree finished 3rd in the Stock Hatch B final while brother Gary came home 2nd in the Modified B final.

Disappointment for Donegan in Mayo 07/03/04
Unfortunately for Kells based rally driver Pat Donegan, the weekends Mayo stages rally was not the start to the 2004 Border championship he was looking for.
With little or no testing time in his Escort prior to the event he suffered a heavy shunt on a private test on Friday evening damaging the rear of his car. The mechanics done a terrific job to get the car ready for the start of the Sunday morning event. Set around the picturesque setting of Crogh Patrick the mountainous roads roared to life with the sound of 131 starters. Donegan showed pace for most of the event and at one point lay in seventh position overall and second in class. It all unravelled on stage five however when an off road excursion resulted in a trip into the boggy countryside and lost the Meath man seven minutes dropping him right off the leader board.

Brady for Welsh national championship 07/03/04
Navan co-driver Martin Brady will team up with Mallow based 18-year-old Brendan Murphy for the 2004 Welsh national championship. Having sourced a Group N Subaru Impreza the pair have just returned from a two-day test session at the Superdrive rally facility in Portadown. Impressed with the car they are looking forward to the opening round of the championship, the Astra stages that will take place on April 3rd.
