SCHOOL ENTERPRISE PROGRAM

The School's Enterprise Program offers students at second level the opportunity to set up and run a Company (or Mini-Company). Part of the assignment for each student is the completion of a Business Report. The Business Report outlines in detail all the tasks in which the students were involved and provides information on all aspects of the business from market research and selling techniques to production, management and finances. The programme has suceeded in opening the eyes of the students and parents to the concepts of Enterprise and Self Employment.

It has also provided a sound basis for the future by outlining the importance of taking a structured approach to running a business. The structured approach offered by the programme builds on skills students have acquired in their education to date and prepares them for the upcoming challenges by increasing their confidence. It also helps to develop multiple skills and competencies. 'Learning through doing' is the focus of the course and students often don't realise until the end of the programme exactly what they have achieved.

Meáscoil San Nioclás incorporates the Schools Enterprise Programme as an integral part of its Transition Year programme as an extra-curricular activity to first and second year groups.
