- Despit our postal address do not go to Glencolumcille.
- First find ARDARA - accent on the last syllable - 16 miles, nearly 26 km from Donegal
Town. From Donegal Town, follow the Killybegs road until you see a large sign to the right to
Ardara.
- Outside the Ulster Bank in Ardara set the trip on your milometer; hereafter, figures in
brackets are distances from Ardara in miles/km.
- From Ardara, take the road towards Killybegs. When you come to a fork (1.4/2.3) take the right
fork signposted to Carrick and Glencolumcille (the main road curves left here).
- Climb Glengesh (very steep, but with a wonderful view from the small car park near the
top). About 200 yards beyond the top (5.1/8.2) there is our sign ('B & B 3 miles' and the
Family Homes logo) pointing to the right.
- Turn right here. There will be sheep fencing on the right of the road but where this stops
(6.4/10.3) there is another road to the right with another of our B & B signs and a walkers'
sign to 'Granny'. Take this road to the right and beware of potholes.
- There should now be a small weedy lough below the road to your left. At this stage you may
begin to think that you are in the middle of nowhere but in fact you have nearly found us.
- You will come to a fork (8.0/12.9), to the left-hand, untarred road passing over a
concrete bridge. Keep to the right on the tar. Go past a small modern bungalow with a large
barn above the road on your right.
- A little further on (8.1/13.1) you will see a leylandii hedge to your right at right-angles
to the road and a brown wooden fence. You have arrived!
If you leave the tarred road you are lost.
If you are coming from Killybegs, go to Ardara, have a drink and start again. There are
about 25 pubs in Ardara.
Once you get beyond the top of Glengesh you will not get a signal on a mobile phone.
