How We Designed Our Webpage

In September, 1998, a group of students in the school decided to set up a computer society. The members of the new society, decided that the schools should create a webpage and brough their idea to Denis Hanbury, the schools IT co-ordinator.

As it was the start of the year, and everyone was quite busy, it was decided to wait until January to begin work on the page.

As soon as the new school term began, a team of webmasters was established. Akthough our IT Advisors, Computer Solutions, advised us to use Microsoft Publisher 98, it was decided to design the entire thing using HTML and JAVA. A member of the team, Lorraine O'Donnell had been working with these languages for four years and she decided that she would be able to create a look for the page.

A lot of planning was required and it was over two months before all the relevant information was collected by the Society. When it came to the actual design of the page, sheets of art paper were used and together, the society came up with a basic site that incorporated both frames and tables, features that everyone liked.

It was hoped that the site would be user friendly and easily navigated, and to this end we asked some of our parents to try and find their way around the site. With feedback from them and from other students the page was finally launched (after a delay) in May, 1999.

We hope that this page will prove informative and enjoyable and that it will be of some help to other schools who would like to design webpages of their own.
