The Telecom Internet Information Age Schools Competition 1999

Congratulations to Lorraine O'Donnell, Marian Noone and Louisa Purfield who came second in the secondary school level of the Telecom Eireann Information Age Schools Competition.

The competition required the girls to design a webpage in conjunction with another school. Klostermarksskolen in Roskilde, Denmark was chosen and through the use of e-mail the two teams exchanged information. They were able to successfully compare a day in the life of the two schools and as the project progressed they learned more and more about the opposite culture.

Thanks to an idea provided by Fr. Sean Page, the girls compared the use of technology in the lives of three cartoon families - The Flintstones, The Simpsons and The Jetsons, comparing them to the stages of human technology. They also wrote a creative essay showing the educational beneifts of the Internet.

At a prize-giving ceremony in Templebar, Dublin, the girls were awarded second place and a £2000 IT voucher for the school.
