Our Sincere Thanks to all who
supported this tournament, in any way, it was a tremendous success, and a
fantastic tribute to Martin and his family. Over 14,000 euro was raised
for North West Hospice.
See you next year!
A dear friend and colleague, Martin McManus, passed away recently, having fought
a long and hard battle with cancer. Prior to his illness, Martin was an employee
of Michael Flannery Car Sales, Rathcormac, where he was popular with Management
Staff and Customers Alike. Martin was a great lover of the Game of Soccer, and
he and indeed all his brothers played with distinction in the Sligo Leitrim
Soccer League over the years, and indeed some are involved in managerial
capacity. His unique popularity was confirmed by the Huge attendance at his
funeral. Towards the end of his illness Martin was provided with a level of
compassionate care and attention which can only be described as second to none,
by the staff of the North West Hospice. The Hospice also provided his family
with assistance and emotional support in coming to terms with the terrible grief
caused by the death of a family member through cancer.
We intend to honour Martins Memory by hosting a 7 a side Soccer Tournament this
month, called the Martin McManus Memorial 7 a side tournament, with all proceeds
raised going towards the North West Hospice. This tournament will be hosted at
Merville Community Centre, Maugheraboy, with main sponsors Mooneys Bar, in the
locality.

The Tournament will commence on 17th May, and weather permitting, will conclude
on 23rd May.
The following is a summary of the activities related to this project, with which
a help in promotion would be appreciated.
The Committee for this tournament include Martin Kane, Frank McGarry, John Coen,
Declan Foley, Raymond McManus and David McManus.
We intend to have good quality match programme published prior to the final
games of this event, and invite local business to get involved by sponsoring
half page or full page advertisements. To date the response from local
businesses and the Community has been tremendous, and we would like to invite
the general public to donate to this cause by contacting any member of the
committee, or by lodging cash donations to the special Bank account set up at
Permanent TSB O’Connell Street Sligo. (Account Number to Follow) We will also be
promoting a spot prize draw and auction, with a presentation party night
following the final
Anyone interested in entering a team can do so by contacting any Committee
Member, and places will be limited, so we would advise interested teams to do so
as early as possible to avoid disappointment. The Panel for this tournament is
10 players, at least 2 of whom must be over 40, one of which must play
throughout the games. A Full list of the tournament rules will be available to
all teams entered and on the Merville United Website. Winners will receive the
Martin McManus Perpetual Cup, with trophies for the Winning players and Runners
up. There will also be a presentation to the player chosen by the Referees and
Tournament Committee as the Outstanding Player of the Tournament, and all prizes
are currently on display at Mooneys Bar, who kindly have sponsored all the
trophies for the event.
Should any further information be required, please do not hesitate to get in
touch with me on 0876249863, or Martin Kane on 087-2670538. Could you please let
me know by return email if you are unable to facilitate us with publication next
week, as we will have to modify our promotion of the event if that is the case.
Thanking you for your time and attention
